Guitar Hero On Tour Modern Hits Download – Guitar Hero On Tour Modern Hits Review

It’s not a mystery how Activision and Vicarious Visions  can crank out multiple Guitar Hero DS titles so quickly: the sequels use the same tech that the developers built into the original release.

The core engine is the hard work – with that out of the way, the developers can focus more of their time on switching out the character models, venues, and – most importantly – the track list of songs for each of the Guitar Hero product.

Once again, more than 25 songs fill the cartridge, with music that spans guitar-heavy hits from the past five years. You’ll get Lenny Kravitz, Coldplay, Evanenscence…even Tenacious D, and each of the songs can be played in Lead Guitar and Bass/Rhythm Guitar (each with their own note highways) in Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert levels.

On top of this, the inherent song streaming technology of the previous two versions of Guitar Hero On Tour means that the excellent multiplayer feature of wirelessly linking any version of Guitar Hero On Tour is in Modern Hits.

In other words, you can have more than 50 songs available in the cooperative and competitive two player mode if you link Modern Hits with last year’s On Tour Decades or the original Guitar Hero On Tour.

Obviously, if you’ve already played through either or both of the Guitar Hero: On Tour games that preceded Modern Hits, you’re going to get an experience that hasn’t really changed all that much…at least during  the gameplay.

What has changed is the structure: instead of working your way through a set list unlocking the next group of songs simply by playing the batch that comes before it, your progress is now built around playing smaller sets of songs at different venues, and then performing “fan requests” to unlock access to the next venue.

It’s almost like Tony Hawk in its layout, as some of the fan requests involve performing specific tasks within the chosen song, like hitting a 6X Multiplier or nailing a 100 note streak in a song, or landing a set number of attacks in Battle Mode. Is this a better structure for Guitar Hero? No, but it is fun, and — at the very least — different, and shows that the designers didn’t simply reskin the previous game and called it a day.
